Teaching methods

I place great importance on the mediation of classical texts and their critical reception from the point of view of new research. For better understanding, I regularly embed text discussions in short lectures in seminars. Instead of classical lectures I work with group and partner work, discussion/debate and the use of moderation methods with visualisations. In addition to conveying specialist knowledge, my seminars always focus on methodological, social and personal competence.

Supervision

At the University of Konstanz I supervise theses within political and legal anthropology: especially on the anthropology of state and statelessness, social order, practices of (neo-)traditionalization, legal pluralism, common sense, constitutional policy, autoritarian states and activism. Furthermore I supervise theoretical work at the interface between anthropology, ethnomethodology and existentialism.

As external examiner I review theses at the Division of Social Sciences at the American University in Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and I have reviewed theses at the Department of Anthropology at the University of Yangon in Myanmar until February 2021.
