Anna Louban (Secondary Supervision)

Anna Louban’s research interests are in the following fields: 

• Anthropology of law, bureaucracy & the state
• Bureaucratic practices
• Citizenship & migration 
• Conceptualization of identity
• Artificial intelligence (AI) & ethics
• AI-related legal, societal and institutional processes & dynamics

She holds an M.A in Studies in European Culture and a B.A. in Sociology & Slavic Studies, both from the University of Konstanz.

Her PhD thesis focuses on German immigration bureaucracy. The fieldwork for this study was conducted over the course of sixteen months in three key institutions of immigration bureaucracy in Berlin: (a) the Immigration Office (b) Integration Courses and (c) the Naturalisation Office. Participant observation, document analysis and different interview techniques were all used to generate extensive qualitative data that forms the basis of her research.
