In an age of populism in which the migrant figure in its singularity is being mobilized as an impending threat to the stability of civilized nations, this talk proposes a figural reconstruction of the migrant to unveil the multiple social conditions of expulsion that shape the literary ontology of the contemporary migrant condition.

Pavan Malreddy, born and raised in South Indian villages, studied and taught in Canada, Singapore, and the Netherlands, teaches at the Department of English, Goethe University Frankfurt. He specializes in 20th and 21st century comparative Anglophone literatures & cultures with a regional focus on East Asia, Africa, and South Asia and with a thematic focus on conflicts, communal bonds, insurgencies, populism, public life and migrancy.
